Greta Thunberg panicked as a child. At the age of eight she began reading about climate change caused by human action and her inaction towards it terrified her. Then her fear turned into action. The IPCC was created in 1988 to inform the world about the state of the climate, but it was not until 2018, when the 15-year-old activist stood in front of the Swedish Parliament with a sign that said " School strike for the climate ", when she practically everyone found out about the climate emergency. His figure has attracted a lot of media attention in recent years. Often, more has been said about her than about her repeated message " listen to science ." But her impetus has been the seed for activist movements led by young people from all latitudes .

Some very precocious, like Francisco Vera , the Colombian who at just 9 years old promoted the Guardians for Life movement and who now, four years later, has been named the first environmental defender in Latin America by Unicef. «The image of that girl in front of Parliament was a media boost. Then, in December 2019, we held the first Climate March with her in Madrid,” says Tomás Castillo , who was a member of Juventud Por El Clima , the Spanish Special Data version of Thunberg's Fridays for Future initiative. «Greta seems like a wonderful person to me and her importance is indisputable, she has managed to get many people out onto the streets and put the climate crisis in the news », adds Sara Santana , member of End Fossil Barcelona .

A society that detaches itself from problems or tries to look at them through a screen is not going anywhere. We need an active, conscious and, if you will, disruptive society. In this sense, Greta made an enormous contribution,” Celeste Saulo , the new secretary general of the World Meteorological Organization, told Climática . For six years, the activist has not missed her appointment to demonstrate for the climate on Fridays. Last month she announced that her last school strike was coming, as she has finished her secondary education. Which does not mean that she stops demanding more climate action in the face of what she considers " blah blah blah ", that is, excuses that delay the policies necessary to curb greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
